Re: Ostensibly Hoops
I don't think that was a bad call. Hood shuffled his feet but was set before contact. The so-called foul on Hood on the dunk in the Carrierdome was also legit because the Cuse defender got his hand on the ball while their elbows collided.

Doesn't matter if his feet were were set before contact, the new rule states you must be set before the ballcarrier starts his upward motion.Saint wrote:I don't think that was a bad call. New rule your 100 correct but everyone knows if there is a key block/ flop coach K is going to get it.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Boeheim personally killed any chance 'cuse had at winning.... if he stays on the bench: 10 secs. remaining, duke inbounds and 'cuse immediately fouls... duke hits one of two free throws (based on their night's record) cuse brings the ball in with 9 seconds remaining.... descent chance they can hit a 3 at the buzzer to send it into overtime... thats exactly what duke did at Syrcuse.... maybe not the best odds, but certainly, stranger things have happened... we'll never know because boeheim personally removed the opportunity to try for it.

Glad to see Boeheim let everyone know just how crooked the officiating is in Cameon. Something the entire country already knew though. I support him 100% on his rant.guncase wrote:Boeheim personally killed any chance 'cuse had at winning.... if he stays on the bench: 10 secs. remaining, duke inbounds and 'cuse immediately fouls... duke hits one of two free throws (based on their night's record) cuse brings the ball in with 9 seconds remaining.... descent chance they can hit a 3 at the buzzer to send it into overtime... thats exactly what duke did at Syrcuse.... maybe not the best odds, but certainly, stranger things have happened... we'll never know because boeheim personally removed the opportunity to try for it.

need to see a replay. I still don't understand the foul with 11 seconds left in regulationeCat wrote:we got some calls in that game.
It was an entertaining game and I liked that the twins and young pushed the ball up the court. It was about the only way we could score against LSU. We had no half court offense today.
Don't know what to make of it. It was a win and the strategy Cal had was a sound one. Had the Harrisons not decided to start shooting 18 foot jump shots the last 3 minutes of the game, it wouldn't have went to OT.

Damn goldenbear. You've shown a pure inability to look at anything objectively. Everything is in superlatives with you. Roy is the worse coach while having to put up with the worse refs who always cheat against Carolina. It's what makes your posts entertaining but irrelevant at the same time.goldenbear wrote:crotch wrote:Doesn't matter if his feet were were set before contact, the new rule states you must be set before the ballcarrier starts his upward motion.Saint wrote:I don't think that was a bad call. As for Boeheim, it was a bang/bang play. Agree with CJ Fair, it costs Syracuse a chance to win this game. Boeheim blew it. At least he didn't cry like he did while I lived (for 4 years) in Syracuse.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Boeheim took those techs to give up the game and take the pressure off his team for having the two losses in the same week and putting this loss on himself. I'm convinced that's why he reacted the way he did (I don't think he has ever been ejected from a game in that manner in 35 years). It was likely Cuse would have a shot at tying the game if things bounced perfectly, but it was not likely they would have won. Maybe I'm giving Boeheim too much credit, but it would be the masterful way to play it.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
what made Pippen, Pippen, was his freakish length, ability to play 4 positions and incredible defense. Parker has a very mature offensive game but is nowhere near the defender Pippen was and he has not shown the athletic ability to ever be that player. That's why I say Wiggins (and maybe Exum) have the best chance to be Pippen. Exum is shorter, but has the extra wide wingspan that Pippen has. Wiggins Is almost built exactly like Pippen and Is already becoming KU's most complete defender. So, while I love Parker's offensive game, that's the part of the pie that is most impressive. The defensive side has a lot to be desired...and that's what made Pip so special.hedge wrote:"Parker is definitely not a Scottie Pippen type. Not in the least. If anything, Wiggins is that. Parker is Adrian Dantley...which isn't a bad place to be."
Last night was the first time I've seen Parker play, the way he ran the floor, his handle, his outside jump shot and the way he took it to the rim all reminse, ded me of Pippin. Of course he disappeared (thankfully) for a long stretch in the second half (saw on ESPN today that he didn't even touch the ball for like a 7 minute stretch, which is unfathomable to me), but when he was rolling, I was very impressed. Looked like a better version of Harrison Barnes...

People ignored the new NBA commissioner when he said that he wanted to increase to two years after High School before a player could be drafted.

Parker looks more like a young Durant to me (looking at body type and game)

Maybe, but the reaction was totally uncharacteristic of anything Boeheim has done...ever. It's not the first tough call he's had in a hostile arena to end a regular season game.Owlman wrote:you're giving Boeheim too much credit.

Parker plays like a young Durant, but he's got a more sturdier body. He's a solid kid. I still say he'll be Adrian Dantley in the pros.

The #1 pick is probably the toughest slot to be in this year. A lot of pressure and there are about 5 guys that can be franchise players (if Parker comes out)...only the first team to pick has the shot at being "wrong."Owlman wrote:Prediction: Miraculously the Lakers get the top pick in the draft, the Celtics get the second pick in the draft, Milwaukee, the worse team in the league gets the 4th pick in the draft

Boeheim was pretty relaxed over the whole thing in his post game press conference. Seemed like he fully understood what had happened and why.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

I think Boeheim had to send a message and was willing to take a loss to do it. Listen here, ref, we may be new to this conference, but our program is just as big as Duke's and I have been coaching as long as he has. The weak leadership at UNC may let have this shit slide for years, but I sure as he'll ain't going quietly into the night.

Missed this when you first posted it. Yep, I saw Silver say it (and lob in the "zero sum game" factor of spots available to play in order to help sell it to current players) and think that it's bullshit. It probably would happen and would help the college game...but I don't sign on to that policy unless they start giving stipends to these college players.Owlman wrote:People ignored the new NBA commissioner when he said that he wanted to increase to two years after High School before a player could be drafted.

Whether he meant to do it or not, its great for Syracuse and the conference down the road. Cuse just moved up to second biggest rival to Duke and will get some mileage out of this , and to push it out further , you're gonna have to be a pretty hard nose ref to call a charge for Duke in the last seconds of the game for awhile. Cuse has replaced Maryland especially after Gary Williams is gone and Maryland is a shell of what it used to be.
My take on it is - in 95% of the games played, that would be a no call - even if it is a foul because the refs shouldn't decide the game, and if they did call it, it should have gone in favor of Cuse, not Duke based on the new interpretation of the rule.
I can see it either way - but the fact that any logical person can say it could have went either way says it should have been a no call and just adds to the Duke bias.
Beating the #1 team in the nation at home on a flop
fucking Duke.
