Dan Persa to sit against BC

By Adam Rittenberg
ESPN.com

Northwestern sophomore quarterback Kain Colter will make his first career start Saturday at Boston College, while senior Dan Persa isn't dressed and won't play.

Persa, a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2010, had been limited in preseason practice as he continues to recover from Achilles tendon surgery. Colter saw more time with the first-team offense, but coach Pat Fitzgerald had been non-committal on who would start the opener.

Persa said this week that his Achilles is improving, but his mobility remains restricted.

Northwestern dropped its final three games last season after Persa ruptured his Achilles in a Nov. 13 win against Iowa.

Colter rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the TicketCity Bowl against Texas Tech, but he completed just 3 of 9 passes for 38 yards with an interception last season.

Evan Watkins and Trevor Siemian will back up Colter against Boston College.

U*NC is the cleanest most honest athletic program on the planet. I am jealous of their deserved success, and I'm a mewling cunt.

The NonConference

California (1-11)
Northern Illinois (12-2)
Western Illinois (4-8)
@ Notre Dame (9-4)

Cal is a wildcard...if they are remotely better, this becomes pretty challenging, with NIU as a very capable mid-major that will be eager to knock off the in-state team. Compare this schedule with Vanderbilt's. Ah but I forgot. Vanderbilt has to play Ole Miss, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri every year. It's simply impossible to ask them to play a single quality team OOC. Mea culpa.
