The IRB was correct to stop the research based on the lack of protections for the subjects. This is ralatively easily remedied though. It just means that the research must go through supervision to make sure the subjects privacy is protected. Instead of talking about timing, Willingham should simply agree to work with the supervisory board to make sure that the subject is protected (this is standard in all medical schools and in universities when dealing with confidential information). However, the SAT and ACT entrance data is there.

UNC: Literacy research is flawed

"Willingham provided her research data to the university earlier this week. By Thursday, the school had released an analysis from its admissions office saying that more than 97 percent of 1,377 first-year student-athletes admitted through special-talent policies between 2004-12 met testing thresholds used in the CNN report -- a 400 on the SAT critical reading or writing test, or a 16 on the ACT -- about reading levels for first-year students nationally."

HOW did 3% get through if they didn't meet the minimum?
