my grandfather watched 2 things religiously - Sanford and Son and Wrestling. I think he could find both on TV any time he wanted once we got cable.

oh shit, I forgot about wild kingdom.

and before that for us anyways was Lawrence Welk.

They still show Lawrence Welk on some channel here occasionally. People wearing shit that wasn't even in style back in the 60's or whenever that show was live.

Yeah, we had to watch Sanford & Son every Friday. If my dad was already asleep or doing something else, I could switch over to The Brady Bunch or first half of Six Million Dollar Man but 8 p.m. Friday was pretty much Sanford & Son.

Interestingly on that wikipedia link, it looks like the networks would show reruns of certain shows from earlier in the week. I vaguely remember that. I can't believe I watched that much TV when we only had 3 channels or even after we got cable and had 13 channels but only 3 worth watching.

you have a better memory than me. Whats Happening was fun - Rerun and Rog.

CBS had Good Times , One Day At A Time , All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Maude - I think they did but maybe they weren't on all at the same time. Oh, and Alice. No wonder CBS always lost the Network Battle of the Stars - they had a bunch of out of shape, middled aged stars in all their shows.

Norman Lear was basically supplying CBS with half of its programming back in the 70's. Sanford & Son is the only Lear show that I don't think was on CBS

its amazing they could make 13 episodes of a show based on a sheriff chasing a trucker with a monkey

The Waltons must not have had anything else on at its time slot worth watching (or my parents didn't allow me to watch it) because I watched that depressing ass show all the time.

Depression era people that never catch a break - what a great show. I was living that shit, I didn't want to watch it on TV

I guess we watched it to make my old man feel better. See that ? John Boy only has ONE PAIR OF SHOES!

I guess your folks didn't know that Grandpa Walton was a flaming homosexual in real life. No wonder Grandma Walton was so uptight.

we were all pretty clueless to gay. I remember being shocked that the village people were gay. I just thought they liked mustaches and costumes

This is the greatest stream of posts to ever exist in any Goatpen ever...

(I was clueless to Mike Brady's gayiety...and I should have seen it coming once they all got perms. Paul Lind was the only one who wasn't fooling anyone)
