Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
The SEC and Big10 play each other in bowl games more than any two other conferences. So is the SEC's bowl record good because they are only playing Big10 teams? Or is the Big10's record bad because they are playing more SEC teams than anyone else?
We might've picked up a couple extra bowl wins if we had been able to play Cincinnati and Bowling Green instead. Illinois and Indiana beat those two teams by about 30 points apiece.

Like Georgia Tech and FSU? Talk about a thrashing. They did manage 4 victories by a TD or less to go along with their 4 losses, though. Great win, TAMU!

The SEC is a crappy hoops conference. Get over it. Having Kentucky & Florida in the league doesn't make it good. It's clearly below the ACC, Big10, Big East, and Big12, and has been for a while. This year Sagarin has you below the Pac12 as well.

Thank you Dr. Obvious. Being a crappy hoops conference does not keep us up at night; it is fun however to occasionally see some success at the big Dance despite the occupying the lowly plateau. Sort of like the Big Dozen view of football.

Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
interesting. on the one hand, DSL goes out of his way to argue that the SEC schedules 'aren't that tough'....yet turns around and tries to explain away the Big '10's horrific bowl record as a product of playing alot of SEC opponents?Dr. Strangelove wrote:The SEC and Big10 play each other in bowl games more than any two other conferences. It appeared to me that he was seeking an explanation, not offering one...

Then he'd need to submit a better theory for explanation based on his own comments regarding the SEC's overall strength.
Either that or he is, shockingly, correct.

Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
Dish Network reportedly is close to agreeing to a contract with ESPN to carry SEC network at carriage rates of $1.30/month/subscriber inside the SEC state footprint and $0.25 outside the footprint. Probably every other provider will fall in line once Dish and AT&T are signed up, but at those rates the money is going to be massive. Probably at least $25 million per team on top of the revenues teams are already receiving. There are 30 million or so cable subscribers just in the footprint so if everybody falls in line you're already at 30*1.30*12=$468 million = $39 million in revenue per team before expenses and ESPN get their share.

Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
I can see them doing that in places like Alabama or Mississippi but are they really going to get $1.30 for every customer in places like Texas and Florida? Don't get me wrong, I know A&M has a big fanbase, but that's still primarily the domain of the Big12 and given how the Longhorn Network fell flat on its face, is it logical to think that the SEC Network would command those sort of prices there?

Where are you getting 30 million x 12?
