Re: Florida State Seminoles
It is a good idea. 18 years is plenty of time. Every president should be able to nominate at least one Supreme Court justice. We have all agreed that anybody who supports a certain president is happy if he gets to nominate more justices and pissed if a president they don't like gets to do it. Why should the Supreme Court (certainly as it is currently configured, with lifetime appointments) be subject to the accidents of death or old age or whatever? It makes no sense...

Lol, it amazing how when you think about who are the idiots in congress who actually think they can just “pass a law” that end runs around the Constitution and then you look and its like, “Oh, of course…”
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) introduced the bill, along with Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), David Cicilline (D-R.I.), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Karen Bass (D-Calif.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) as co-sponsors.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

I'm more for term limits for Congress but I could go with an age limit. Honestly, an age limit on all government positions would work for me. I don't want some old out of touch 70 & 80 year olds making decisions for me.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I don't necessarily think its a bad thing but I would feel better about it if it wasn't initiated by progressives in response to political power being taken away from them
A better solution is to nominate more people like John Roberts and fewer people like Sotomayor and Kavanaugh. Roberts is a bit of a wild card in that he angers and supports both sides because he is probably the most neutral justice on the court. No one thought that when he was nominated but compared to the others, he really does evaluate on merit and not ideology.
I recognize that is folly but the term limit rule just means that SCOTUS nominations become a political tool and a party platform plank. We knew Trump would nominate a justice but that is pretty rare going into a presidential race. With a term limit rule, the party would push to have a political appointee, and it would guarantee that every nominee would be an extremist in order to serve the political needs.
That doesn't help the country.

I agree with that age limits. Look at Biden in 1990 versus now , he is a shell of the man he was. Reagan had dementia in his final months in office.Jungle Rat wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 9:05 am I'm more for term limits for Congress but I could go with an age limit. Re: Florida State Seminoles
another you have to worry about with term limits , moreso with politicians but still applies with SCOTUS is the scorched earth.
If you know that your days are limited then human nature is going to say "I don't give a fuck, I'm doing whatever, there are no consequences".
Someone leaked Roe V Wade, if you have no fear of impeachment or censure due to term limits, you'll see alot more of that and worse.

A new CNN poll finds 75% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters want the party to nominate someone other than President Joe Biden in the 2024 election, a sharp increase from earlier this year.
The poll comes as Biden's approval ratings remain low and most Americans are discontented with the state of the country and the economy. Inflation remains high and a new report released Tuesday showed consumer confidence slipped for the third straight month.
Twenty-four percent of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters said they want someone else because they don't think Biden can win in 2024, up from 18% in a poll conducted in January and February. Thirty-two percent feel that way because they don't want Biden to be reelected, up from 16% earlier this year.
-----------------------------
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg received slightly more support compared to President Biden among likely 2024 New Hampshire Democratic primary voters when asked their first choice for president, according to a new poll released Tuesday.
The University of New Hampshire (UNH) Survey Center Granite Poll found that 17 percent of likely 2024 Democratic primary voters in the state would choose Buttigieg among a list of Democrats, or those who caucus with Democrats, who are considered possible 2024 presidential contenders.
Biden received 16 percent support, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who each came in at 10 percent. A handful of other Democrats, in addition Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), received less than 10 percen

Re: Florida State Seminoles
If the Dems can find someone better than Biden I am all for it. To me, Bidens only job was to beat Trump and expose him for the piece of shit that he is. He's done that while also dealing with the expected fallout of the Trump administration. The Infrastructure Bill is an amazing success that was much needed. Gonna be hard to get climate done but I hope he keeps pushing. He knew going in that he had a hell of a mess to clean up. So far he's doing it. Best man for the job at that particular point in time.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
yeah, I especially like the part about how 4 newborn infants die (one with heart problem, one with a liver problem, one with lungs problem) where ALL THREE could have lived if they just harvested the organs from the one infant born without a brain who was aborted in utero because of videos like this one.
If you believe in God (as I do) and you know that God gives us free will, you will also know that sometimes He works in strange and mysterious ways. Maybe that infant (that will only live for an hour after birth) was brought onto this earth for the SOLE PURPOSE of saving 3 other babies that are going to die? Of course, we would never know that if the baby is aborted now would we hedge?

Which is why we don't need New Hampshire having any kind of major say as to who the nominee is...

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Why do you treat this as nothing more than a minor "operation" to take care of a major problem? Has feminism completely and utterly robbed you of any real capacity to think and reason? If so, stop. Come back and join us in the world of reality.
In the world of reality, the OB that performs an abortion is a murderer. The mother that chooses abortion, hired a hit man. And you and I (if we condone this behavior) are complicit in infanticide. That is reality. Why is that so hard to comprehend?
If you fuck and ejaculate into a fertile womb, there is a possibility you created a life. Human beings are in the business of creating life and (in many cases) saving life. That is our business. But we all die. Maybe you and I die tomorrow. Maybe you and I live another 50 years. Death is God's business. Its not ours. When we start making His job our business, that is when we are listening to the Devil. I am totally serious here hedge.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
The minimum age for being elected to Congress should be 35.
The mandatory retirement age for congressmen, senators, president / vp, cabinet members and members of the judiciary should be 75 with a maximum age of 71 to assume office for all but the house with the house being 73 due to two year terms (unless the person is assuming office to fill out a term).
Term limits for house and senate members should be set to a maximum of 12 years of service.
The constitution should be amended to do away with the bullshit emanating from Citizens United with federal campaigns and related ads being limited to those paid by the candidates with limits on who can donate and what can be donated.
The constitution should be amended beyond that to address redistricting and elections by requiring redistricting strictly on population / geographical basis by equal numbers of map makers from whichever parties have enough registrations in each state with review via electronic and federal means to ensure — as much as possible — that gerrymandering didn’t occur.
US District Court Judges should be at least 45, with a minimum of 15 years of practice experience with experience in trying cases in federal and state courts.
Appellate / Circuit Court Judges should be at least 50 with five years of experience at the District Court level on top of the aforementioned trial practice experience with extensive appellate experience included during that span.
Supreme Court Justices should be at least 55 with five years of Appellate / Circuit Court experience along with having the prerequisites for District and Appellate / Circuit courts.
The Constitution and the Founding Fathers did not fail us. We failed them by not updating the damn thing like we should have — despite them having the foresight to establish the means to do so — because we made the country so divided that such updating via amendment is nearly impossible.
Granted, I’m not a textualist / originalist, but I believe we should be far more proactive about updating the constitution via amendment.
