Re: Florida State Seminoles
Well do you want/expect/believe that the government does/should have something to do gas prices or don't you? The only thing they can do is lower their share of gas prices, i.e., taxes. Unless you're suggesting they commandeer corporate supplies and set the price randomly. Either way, it's pure socialism. Funny hearing people squall about the government "not doing anything" about gas prices (or even more idiotically, blaming government b/c they think the price of gas is "too high" - it's amazing they don't think they should get it for free), the same people who squall the loudest against "socialism"...

What we should do to lower gas prices is get out of the way. We drill and export our own energy to the world.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
The gov would get more money from its gas tax (which is the same amount per gallon) since people would buy more gallons at a cheaper price, and the US gets a royalty of roughly 19% for what oil companies produce on federal lands, etc. of course the idiot administration knows that so they are opening leases back up now too to try and stop the rise in prices. They only stopped leases in the first place to score bs political points by being anti-oil

Not to mention his plan is just insane. If I suggested to you, that we would help you out by eliminating sales tax at the grocery stores and Walmart or Costco, whatever, to help you out, but then we’d tax the fuck out of Walmart, grocery stores Costco etc to make up for it, do you think that you would save money at those places? It’s asinine.

He is insane. He is listening to the academic lobby. He is considering signing any bill into law that would put ALL the student loan debt on the taxpayer. That is fucking insane. Why should a truck driver who never took a college class in his life be saddled with higher taxes to pay off some cvnt's $100,000 in student loans she took out (of her own free will) for her transgender studies degree?aTm wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 11:58 pm Not to mention his plan is just insane. We have had universities on this continent for 400 years and student loans for a hundred years. But now its a crisis? Why? Because the students are women and not men? Look, the majority of students at university are women and those same women have the vast majority of the student loan debt. And all they want to do is Welsh on it (have the patriarchy bail them out.) Its shit like this that tempt me into believing that women should not have the right to vote.

No duh. But some people seem to think that just b/c "we" (LMAO) are producing the oil that somehow "we" will magically have lower gas prices. That's insane. We export massive amount of diesel fuel to Europe, and why? B/c they're willing to pay top dollar. But some 'Muricans think that just b/c an American company is producing it, they are for some idiotic reason going to keep prices lower here in 'Murica. Again, pure idiocy...

"At the end of 2021, there were about 9,000 approved permits to drill on federal and Indian lands. Those permits included those issued under Biden and those still active from Trump’s administration."
9000 unused drilling permits. Yeah. Bidens fault.

Uh huh, but no snide opinions or enviro-nut lobbyist articles to post for us yet about Schiff’s genius idea to lower prices by getting rid of a tax on a commodity, but then…(here’s the genius part)…replace that lost tax revenue with another tax on it!

Re: Florida State Seminoles
What do people expect? The government poured trillions of dollars directly into the pockets of its citizens for 2 years, the stock market went ballistic, people weren't going out and spending money, everybody got to work from home, and now they're pissed b/c gas prices are high. Buncha fucking babies. I also love how so-called conservatives are now demanding that the government fix the economy...

Re: Florida State Seminoles
democrats are not demanding that the government fix the economy?
the issue with the drilling permits is not the availability of permits, its the startup cost associated with investing after a permit is received
With a president openly pushing for alternative energy sources and creating policies to drive it, why would a oil company make an investment of potentially billions with a long term ROI strategy when the president and congress is actually working to stop them?
Our gas prices are a result of progressives who think everyone should drive an EV.
When people address the permit issue, its really about creating an environment in Washington where the oil companies are comfortable with making the investment in drilling and refineries.

Catherine Mastro refuses to even dignify inflation. She wont mention it and (likely) will not answer questions about it.eCat wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 10:20 am democrats are not demanding that the government fix the economy?

Apparently, the DNC has not given her the narrative yet to find a way to blame republicans who are not even in power yet.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Inflation at its simplest explanation is caused by "too much money chasing too few goods"
Some of the pain yet to come (especially in food) is because of bad growing seasons worldwide and the war in Ukraine compounding some of the pandemic related issues, but the root cause of inflation is the response to the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the money supply (M2) was roughly $15 trillion dollars. That is roughly $45,500 dollars circulating for every person in the United States. During the pandemic millions got laid off or furloughed, plants shut down, imports were curtailed, supply chains were decimated, food plants were forced to shut down for long periods from outbreaks, etc etc. Fewer goods available. Something anybody who may have tried to buy a car, or a graphics card, or simply has gone to a big box or grocery store and looked at the shelves will find obvious. During that time the government gave out huge amounts of money. We paid businesses not to lay people off. We paid people who got laid off more than they could possibly make if they still had their jobs. We gave free money in several payments to almost everyone in the United States. The result is that the money supply is now $22 trillion. That's $66,500 circulating for every person. So the entire population has way more money, and there is less shit to buy, and so everything costs more. That's the reality, the free monopoly money given out is never worth as much as what money used to be worth. Completely predictable, and I said this would happen here back in 2020. Government free money and pandemic shut down of the economy is the reason inflation is as bad as it is. Both Republicans and Democrats as a team came up with this in lockstep.
Shut down the economy to keep the population "safe." Give everybody free money to keep the politicians "safe." Thats the policy of the US government, and both lead directly to inflation.

Big Oil needs to adapt not gouge. They've know about the push toward electric for a long time now. They chose to fight the inevitable. Now our citizens are paying for it. As are the citizens of England, Germany etc. Guess they're all blaming Biden too for their record high prices. Oil just posted their largest profits ever. So yeah, let's really bitch about the cost of drilling.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I doubt "Big Awwwwl" is worried about electric cars. Replacing the country's gas powered cars with electric ones is not feasible without building huge amounts of power plants to produce the electricity needed when all those cars get plugged in to charge up. Power plants that will almost certainly need to be powered by one of their products, natural gas. It takes the same amount of energy to drive around an electric car as it does one powered by gasoline.

That's assuming the car manufacturers can advance the technology enough to bring down the fact that EV's are on average 25-30% heavier. Until then, it will actually take more energy to move around those electric cars.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
It's more than an expensive gas issue.
The democrats know that the US can't quickly move to alternative fuels. They just claim we can and look to shut down production, here, while getting the same fossil fuel sources the US needs from other countries. It's a shell game they play for politics, but it hurts national security because we are dependent on outside sources. Europe went that route earlier than us and is now in a desperate situation with reliance on Russia energy.
You say it's just a few dollars more gas issue, but the head of the International Energy Agency says otherwise.

More energy use for less pollution. Better for the environment. Sounds good to me.
