For me, Trump doesn't have to do a damn thing. Seeing the reaction on the faces of those condescending libtards made the election worthwhile.

The Flag Protection Act of 2005 was a proposed United States federal law introduced in the United States Senate at the 109th United States Congress on October 24, 2005, by Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) and co-sponsored by Senator Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.). Later co-sponsors included Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Thomas Carper (D-Del.).[1]

The law would have prohibited burning or otherwise destroying and damaging the US flag with the primary purpose of intimidation or inciting immediate violence or for the act of terrorism. It called for a punishment of no more than one year in prison and a fine of no more than $100,000; unless that flag was property of the United States Government, in which case the penalty would be a fine of not more than $250,000, not more than two years in prison, or both

Plenty of laws are written, sponsored, voted on in committee, voted on the floor and passed into law that are unconstitutional and subsequently challenged, eCat. Try not to be so damn obtuse. You're better than that.

at no point in my life will I ever actually recognize the "you're better than that" horseshit argument.

*you'll* have to do better than that.

hold on, hold on, hold on

whether it passed or not is not the distinction

a sitting U.S. Senator who either directly or by tacit approval is preferred to be president over our current president elect co sponsored this bill - which is a HUGE difference than a president elect spouting off on twitter without any authority to do anything about it even if he wanted to.

Now I don't support Trump on this but you can't cherry pick.

You are acting like there are some huge Hillary supporters in here who are going to jump in and defend her on this. That is not the case. Hillary trying to push some bullshit bill in the senate to please the mouth breathers is just as bad as Trump using the bully pulpit to push the same thing. But by throwing the Hillary bill out there, you seem to be defending both of them. Why defend either if what they're saying is just plain wrong?

The main thing is, why even comment or spend one second thinking about such pointless bullshit? I suspect the only person in here who is for something like that is Crotch, but I'm pretty sure everybody else recognizes that it's about 486th on the list of things our political leaders should be focusing on right now. Or ever...

disagree

most in the military look at it as a symbol to defend

if we as a country allow flagburning to occur wherever and whenever you have diluted a lot of the heart and soul of what the military is about

you motivate you patriotate an entire force behind the military and the flag.

an entire war was fought with unit banners bein a prime objective for both confederate and union soldiers with desperation/heroism/patriotism all wrapped up in defending that banner and pride in capturing the other. That is magnified a hundred fold when your talking about a symbol of national pride.

its a slap in the face to the military and much of the country if you give up so easily what they fought so hard to defend

They didn't fight to protect the cloth of a flag made in Taiwan.

That said, I'm fine with prohibiting the flag burning in a public area - just as I would be fine with the prohibition of burning anything in a public area.

Yeah, for public safety concerns, no problem with bans on burning. But the thing about flag burning is, it's just a non-issue. How many US flags get burned in the US by US citizens? I'd guess a couple dozen a year, if that. People just don't do it, most people feel respect for the flag or at the very least (raises hand) indifferent enough about the whole thing that I wouldn't waste my time doing it (why would anyone?). But if somebody really feels strongly about it and wants to "make a statement", however lame, just let em do it and then ignore them and then it's forgotten about before the ashes have scattered. This "issue" is even less important and common than the transgender bathroom thingie. It really just goes to show how few things of real substance these buffoons in Washington have to do, so they come up with "issues" like this that they know are going to strike an emotional chord. Again, it's all just bullshit...

This has already been before the supreme court. Any general ban on flag burning as political speech was struck down as a violation of the 1st Amendment in Texas v Johnson and in United States v Eichmann

Trump is hardly on his own out there on this as a "Flag Desecration Amendment" to the constitution (to get around the 1st amendment restirction) has been proposed and has indeed passed the House of Representatives several times since, and most recently failed to pass the Senate in 2006.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

I don't care where its made from

the fight up suribuchi was 1 small example of military taking it to the next level to get something done with the flag as a centerpiece of that action

Its happened hundreds of thousands of times some soldier or unit or platoon or ship or whomever gets extra motivated to defend whatever with the flag as a rallying point

every patriotic scene we replay in our minds has the flag as a rallying point. Olympic moments/funerals/kids in class/starts of sporting events/a look outside--etc etc the constant is always the flag

first amendment might give somebody that right but it also gives all the right to fight any attempt to allow it
