I'm watching a clip of John Stewart on Colbert's show and they are talking about Kanye

and he basically says Kanye is Kanye, he is erratic, he's prone to say unfounded stuff and he is generally thought of as a nutcase so people ignore him,

then he moves on to Kyrie and he says in a joking manner that he was disappointed in Kyrie, makes a joke about his name being Irving, etc

then he moves on to Dave Chappelle

and he gives Dave a pass - and Chappelle essentially reinforced the foundation of what Kanye said on SNL - in front of millions of people and probably 5X the audience from the clip being shown on social media.

John and Dave are friends, and Dave Chappelle is arguably the most influential comic of this decade and perhaps the best one ever at social commentary

If anyone else had said what Dave Chappelle had said, John Steward would have shit all over him, people would be lining up to cancel the guy and take away everything he had.

The movie that Kyrie linked on Twitter is deeply antisemitic. I don’t think he knew that though. He’s just an idiot. Same for Kanye. And I don’t think Dave said anything actyally antisemitic on his monologue, although he did say things that antisemites say as they lead up to their antisemitism, which is why the joke worked.

and Tree, I think you hit the nail on the head - everything that casts a jew, whether its factual social commentary or casual observations is the pre-cursor to antisemitism in their mind, which is defacto anti Semitic. They have been mobilized to attack any "foot in the door" situation to the extent that like Chappelle said, you can't say "the jews" in any form in this country in a public forum.

The best part of that Trump video was the part about the New York Post running the headline (or footline) about "Florida man announce candidacy, see page 26." Ouch. The trailer park crowd might not turn on Trump, but when the Rupert Murdoch's of the world decide they're had enough of him (and they evidently have decided that), he's going to be pushed even more into a corner and will start getting more and more extreme and stupid, which will play well to his base but will turn off even more people who just want him to go away...

The Kyrie Irving stuff really demonstrates how far the left wing has moved toward becoming just as rigidly dogmatic as the social conservatives they despise. Social conservatives justifiably take heat because of their censorship crusades upon anything that infringes upon or spreads ideas that are antithetical to their beliefs. It is inherently anti-freedom. They dont really give a fuck that people play video games, but the idea that video games are spreading dangerous ideas...oh my. Or that shows and books have violence or sexual situations...my God think of all the children and others who will be influences by such blasphemies. They attack these things not only because they exist or believe them to be hurtful, but because in their mind, these ideas cannot be allowed to spread.

The left is now in that same boat, trying to stop the spread of ideas for its own sake. Everybody knows that Kyrie Irving is just some dumb fucking basketball player that doesn't know shit from shinola, for example. Nobody really believes that "the Jews" need to be protected from his ass. But, he's famous, so they need to get that fucker back in line to stop the spread of any and all heretical beliefs to make sure they don't spread to others who he might have influence on. On one had its very benign, Kyrie Irving should not be spreading racist shit, and racist shit does become hurtful, so its ok. But these ideas of controlling people through censorship and gatekeeping, and white knighting, its all becoming the same anti-free speech. Right and Left are going to be the pigs and humans who the other animals cant tell apart from each other at the end of Animal Farm.

I didn't think Chappelle's monologue was anti-semitic. I think he knew it could be taken as such and hence the head fake with the fake monologue during rehearsal, but I didn't think it was anti-semitic. Chappelle was just making light of everything.
