Re: North Carolina Tar Heels
You still give no credence to the role of pure speculation huh, Hedge. I'm surprized. The 60 Minutes piece was one of many who fairly clearly portrayed the difference. Its interesting because your opinion seems to be ideological, based upon your faith in markets, rather than analytical. That's fine ...

Re: North Carolina Tar Heels
Heh. No, its that he has knowlege of and interest in the topic. Recent changes in the law, as so often happens, have begun to effect some commodities in ways not much seen before. I see it as outside of and not particularly beneficial to 'comodities markets,' and to date Hedge thinks it not importan...

Re: North Carolina Tar Heels
I should have said Hedge. If you want to continue the discussion with new information, let me know at the baseball thread here or at Artemis's joint. Otherwise I might (almost certainly will) miss your post.

Re: North Carolina Tar Heels
Hey Hedge. Recall that discussion we had a few weeks ago about the role/influence of speculative/financial money/investment in oil, particularly, outside the bounds of the commodities market? Its been much in the news lately and it seems your view was incorrect or at least limited. Have you noticed?

Re: Baseball
Ellsbury ain't bad either. Cano is really coming on though, and he has the extra power that is traditionally rare among even hall of fame second basemen.
I do like Phillips though.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
SS is still in surplus. I think until 2037. That the government uses the social security payroll revenues elsewhere is not a problem by definition. Its not like the surplus funds could be stored under a mattress. The issue still gets back to the difficult to understand budget-deficit-debt issue. As ...

Re: Baseball
There is plenty of argument on that one. Right now the game has a whole slew of excellent second basemen. If you put Phillips first who do you put in the 2 through 5 spot?

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I don't think that notion that Social Security is being "raided" is all that usefull. It is a trust fund, one of several held by the Federal Government, and most of the money collected under the Social Security portion of the payroll tax goes to purchase Treasury Securities. That is the se...

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I looked it up and found the same piece/interview. It does seem like the topic of 'enhanced interrogation' has reared its head again:
>http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/42880435/ ... aden-raid/<
I wonder if the issue will be pursued.......much.

If you run across where you read that, let me know. As I said, its not a major issue at this point but it is of some interest.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Panetta did not say any intelligence came from waterboarding. If you have a quote that he did, remember where you saw it? He did say that some of the information came from Gitmo, and therefore implied that some 'may' have come from detainees who underwent some of the contentious interrogation method...

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Where did you get the information that much if any of the intelligence information came as a result of waterboarding? I've not read that. The only specific item I recall seeing is that the hotshot they waterboarded 100 plus times refused to say he even knew the courier's nickname which had been give...

Lance Berkman has come back big time, rat. And he did it again today......right handed no less. He has been under my radar, no question. I thought he was pretty much done, and I am very glad I am wrong.

Re: Baseball
The Indians and the Phillies have both had great April's. The Indians will likely fade at least a bit, but the Phillies may well not.
Florida ain't doing too bad either.

Chipper Jones tied The Mick in career RBI last night, 1509 I believe. He won't catch Eddie Murray who has 1900 and some but a nice milestone nonethless. I did not think he would make it back this year, figured he was done. He did and is playing well. Who knows if he will stay healthy.

Re: Baseball
The point is not to be "deep" and "original," but to have a base. I'm sure YOU think you are deep and original. Well that's just fine. If you want something "deep" think about this. The game itself is very simple. Those who play know that. Simple and hard. Many of the f...
