…in a DIII game. Great. Nice job.

Are we really supposed to be impressed by Jack Taylor’s scoring record? I guess it’s semi-amazing, in the same way that some people are amazed when told that there are 31.5 million seconds in a year or something like that. The guy took over 100 shots and 70 threes, so basically whats impressive is that he managed to have an above average effective field goal percentage while taking every single shot in Grinnell’s ultra high scoring system.
I’m a fan of the style of basketball Grinnell plays. I think its a bit whacky, but it is innovative and different with all the lightning pace, lots of three’s, pressure and line changes and all that stuff. I like to see outside the box stuf like that work and I love to see them put up huge numbers, be successful and blow other teams out.
The problem with this particular game is that they were up by 40 at half time. They won the game by 75 points. Don’t ask me to be all amazed and impressed when you manage to get a kid a record by handing him the ball every possession in the 2nd half in a blowout. Taylor scored like 50 points in garbage time, in a system designed to put up a bunch of points. Great. Amazing.
