I'm starting to think that athletic departments around the country are having some sort of secret contest, in which the winner is the school that can produce the most ridiculously lame promotional music video. I would still think Notre Dame's "We Are ND" is your leader in the clubhouse, but I've got to admit, Minnesota's "Midas Touch" brings it, and brings it strong.

You don't often see a coach publicly trash both his own players and their previous head coach.

There's been a lot of discussion recently about paying NCAA football players. Allowing them a reasonable stipend, it is argued, would recognize the contributions these athletes make to their universities. I'm not sure if this Minnesota team would merit additional reward, but the kid playing Goldy the Gopher this year would. Between appearing in that ridiculous video and having to cheer constantly for such a horrendous team, that kid deserves some sort of lifetime honorarium from the University of Minnesota.

The NonConference

Eastern Illinois (12-2)
Middle Tennessee (8-5)
@ TCU (4-8)
San Jose State (6-6)

A very unsexy schedule but a couple of the teams could end up being better than their public perception. TCU and Minnesota have only played once before in 1974.

Grade: C

I've always said "ours", even when I was a kid. It will belong to my brother's kids some day, but I still think of it as theirs even now...
