Don't get State's campus confused with Central Prison. They look similar. State's campus really is an abomination visually. You would think that a trade school with architects could do better.
Only a U*NC fan would confuse red brick (State) for cinder block (central prison). With as many former U*NC athletes that now call Central home you'd think he'd have figured it out.

NCState does have a nice library, and they also have these two half domes on campus, about 50 yards apart and facing each other, you and a friend (or enemy, I guess) can stand in each of them and almost whisper and still hear what the other one is saying, even from 50 yards away. It's the dome effect! That's good ol' NCState engineering at work for ye! (It actually is pretty cool)...

That is the original Central (same location as the current incarnation that has been remodeled and expanded countless times), and that is where the joke about the two developed.

That does look like a building on State's campus though...

Doesn't look like we're going to see much of Raleigh. The boy was pretty tired after his 8am game today and we're heading over to speed & agility testing/BP testing shortly. We have to be back at the stadium at noon tomorrow...

Hope the chicks at Hooters are worth seeing tonight.

I don't think he's going to make the team but he's a full year (or two) younger than most of the participants in this division. He made a nice diving catch yesterday where one of the scouts muttered "what a play!" (I've not heard them say a word all tourney), and he ran the 30 yard dash under 4 seconds which puts him in about the top 3%. All in all it's been a great experience and I hope he appreciates how special the opportunity has been.

I've enjoyed the little bit of the area I've seen too as long as you stay away from the population centers. There it seems like traffic control is not a concern at all, and you'll see cars lined up at traffic lights 30+ deep.

NC DOT engineers feel like it's their job to minimize flow and maximize congestion. The more time you spend sitting still, starting and stopping the better. Maybe we just have a powerful brake and tire lobby.

Yeah. NC DOT is full of State graduates. What do you expect?

He had a phenomenal diving catch in center to preserve the tie in the 9th inning of the final game yesterday against the best team in the tournament - I saw the scouts scribbling in their notebooks afterward. Unfortunately he didn't have a good weekend at the plate but he's never really faced the college calibre pitching he saw. He's 14 competing for a spot on the 16U team so he'll have another chance next year. His coach really offered him a spot on the team on blind faith based on his kid's recommendation and he has been a godsend.

One of the best weekends I can remember...USA Baseball has a facility they are rightfully proud of, they put on an incredible tournament, and my boy learned a lot about where he is and where he needs to be. I can't wait to go back next year.

You should have taken him to the Par 3 course we played a few years back before a classic Nole/Pack thursday night encounter.

RU managed to duckhook a pitching wedge and almost killed someone on the next tee box - good times!!

Kev - my son is a senior now - and while he will be a 3 year starter on his highschool team - he really got burned out at age 15 - about the time you need to make a serious push if you are gonna play beyond HS.

Keep it fun for him!!
