"Offering the daughters was heinous - but not as heinous as allowing a guest in your house to be mistreated."

Which illustrates the point I was making, which is: that's pretty fucked up...

There are situations where all of the choices are different degrees of fucked up. That's life. You choose the least evil one - which was the case, in Lot's example, because the men weren't going to choose his daughters, anyway.

I thought it was rambling and without a clear purpose. A clumsily hewn attempt to offer 'the argument from design' framed around a even more clumsy, 'some atheists are mean'.

Meh.

The God haters have a lot of ground to make up if they want to catch up to the zealotry of some God lovers, of which history is littered with ample examples. The Inquisition, 9/11, etc, etc, etc...

That's a good point, crash. The "god haters" don't hate god, they hate the god lovers...

FWIW, I thought it meandered as well. The line about God's existence (or non existence) being an objective question similar to two plus two equals four is noteworthy.

I wasn't around at the Inquisition, but some of the recent examples probably have more to do with grabbing power or maintaining dominance over people..under the guise of religion. Lob a few grenades, scream Allah Akkbar, and go back to the apartment and watch porn.

Judging from their behavior, I'd say devout catholics...

It's all so simple, really. Treat others like you want to be treated. Works for all nations, ethnicities, religions, and several fraternal organizations.

You're not suggesting that idea first came from Christianity, are you?

Maybe. But the Christians most likely got it from Herodotus or Isocrates.
