Some fights you win by knockout. Sometimes, you get knocked out. And sometimes, it goes twelve rounds, the referee has to raise someone's hand, and for some reason, you get the decision. That's sort of what happened in this game. WVU gained nearly 600 yards of offense in this one and had all the momentum early in the fourth quarter, but somehow, VT managed a late TD and kept WVU's last drive out of the endzone. I don't know if the better team won. Right now, I don't much care.

Prediction: Florida State 35, Virginia Tech 17. VT returns less proven defensive talent this season than the Hokies have in a long time, and VT hasn't beaten Florida State in Florida since 1974. It might be close at halftime, but I doubt it's close by the fourth quarter.

VT 24, Florida State 3

For the record, I wasn't sandbagging-- I was wrong. Florida State has owned VT for most of the past forty years-- even in games when VT played well, the Seminoles have been able to dial up big plays exactly when they've needed them. When Cam Akers broke off that big run early in the fourth quarter, I thought, "Here we go again."

I don't think even the most optimistic Hokie fans saw this defensive performance coming. Florida State clearly has more issues than I thought, but even so, VT lost so much from last year's defense that I thought Florida State's skill talent would just outclass them. Rarely have I been so happy to be wrong.

Well, I think Miami will right itself enough to give Miami a tough fight, but I can’t see how VT doesn’t get to Charlotte.

Isn't it funny how dave literally disappeared for 6 months after UVa's epic first round loss in the NCAA tourny, and now he's back as if nothing ever happened...

you mean the football offseason? what was there to talk about?

- Ohio State ignoring spousal abuse
- Maryland ignoring heat exhaustion
- Michigan State ignoring Larry Nassar
- UNC ignoring NCAA rules (again)...

rough offseason for the B1G...but business as usual in Chapel Hill.

Yeah, it was definitely the offseason for UVa hoops. I forgot you're not really a UVa fan though, just whoever happens to be good during any given season. Looks like you hitched your wagon to the wrong horse with UVa. Oh well, another season is upon us, we'll soon find out who you're a "fan" of this season...

I’m too fat to sink, but I’m too drunk off of Oban to swim.

You should look into the Isle of Mull, the large island directly off the coast from Oban. Get back to me with your results...
