The story is, Withers wrote this song about Denise Nicholas (his fiancée) and Jim Hill, a local sportscaster who would subsequently end up marrying Nicholas after her marriage to Withers ended in divorce. Bill was also (allegedly) kicking Denise's ass regularly.

Yeah, KL wasn't quite calling 'em out to dis them...he basically said he's just trynna raise the bar. I even understood where he was going with the KONY line. It wasn't quite the same as LL rewriting his rhyme to dis Canibus on the same track.
