Kobe re-entered game w/ 7:35 to go, LA up 8. Got outscored rest of way 27-13 as Kobe managed only 4 more while guarded by 38-yr-old JKidd.

our end-of-game execution is shit. All series we've fouled and turned the ball over in the final 3 minutes, to our detriment. I've never seen us consistently do this in the PJax era.

Assuming the Lakers go down to defeat (thanks for the memories Phil...I'm guessing they go down 4-2):

Their help and pick and roll defense is bogus.

The Triangle has been suffering from decreasing player buy-in for years. That's okay until your Number One and Two shot creators get old and/or have their periods at crucial times.

The good news: Bynum's growth as a player should buy some leeway for the aging, the timid, and the scatterbrained, should they accept the new paradigm.

Blow it up.
During a press conference later, O'Mara was asked if he had any advice for Zimmerman, and he answered, "Pay me."

Probably but I'll never count the lakes out when they have that much talent on the court. They really did look like a better team on paper than last year after the moves they made this summer.

Oh well. I'm sure they're sending the hookers over to Dwight's place.

Lakers Vice President Magic Johnson said it might be time for owner Jerry Buss to break up the team.

"Dr. Buss has a lot of work to do," said Johnson. "He's probably going to have to blow this team up after the season if the Lakers lose this series because you have to come back with some fresh faces. You have to pick between the two big men with which one you keep and then you trade the other one."

"The Lakers have two problems," said Johnson, who sold his 4.5% ownership stake in the Lakers to billionaire season ticket-holder Patrick Soon-Shiong in October but has kept his title as vice president. "They're too slow and they have no athletes. This is an athletic league now. When you think about all the teams that are in the playoffs right now, they all can run fast and jump high.

"Sometimes you can be together too long," he continued. "This group has been probably together too long.”

Magic is a buffoon, but I'm in total agreement.

Serious question.

Is Magic untouchable in the franchise?

does Buss love him like Dolan loves Isiah?

what team VP can go on record with statements like this and not get fired on the spot?

Magic has long been critical of the Lakers' players, but he will always be Buss' favorite. Buss went from being a rich unknown to being an extremely rich LA icon who pals around with Hef and dates women almost 60 years his junior.

Magic has OPENLY pursued jobs and ownership opportunities with other teams, and has gone on National TV and picked against the Lakers in playoff series' while having an ownership stake in the team.

So, yes - he's untouchable.

There should at least be a Miami Heat thread in the ECF.

The Mavericks certainly could jump shoot their way out of a 3-0 lead. They need to keep penetrating and make Gasol, Odom and Bynum honest.

has been wrong basketball-wise more than he has been right over the years...and he is definitely never been one of those "mouthpieces" who says things publicly that the team really wants to say (like Charley Rosen used to do for Phil). As a result, I'm not caring about his words. My wonder is what Mitch is thinking, though.
