I'm driving to Miami in August. I'm going to try to get a hybrid then too. I hate them but I love 45 mpg

last time I did it I spent the night in Savannah and stopped at Mount Airy for lunch. Both were a bit out of the way but I got to say I had lunch at the Mayberry Diner

You'd have to bear east to get to 95, it sounds like. Early or late Aug?

Come on day and stay a couple of days at the beach. Maybe I can even get Stu to come down. We've got plenty of beds...

Why would you do this to yourself? That drive is horrible. Years ago, I drove all the way to Homestead and promised to never do that again.

yea it sucks - I have to carry a bunch of stuff down for a conference - awards, signs, hard drives, swag - we could ship it but I like having the car during the week while I am there. I guess I could uber but whatever, I've been going it this way for years.

Wait, you like having a car while you're in Miami, so your solution is to drive one from Ohio???

If I'm reading this correctly, he not only drives from Ohio to Miami...he also rents a car (and is gonna try and get a hybrid) in Ohio to drive to Miami.

There are few things more disheartening then when you finally get to the Florida border, there is a sign that says Miami 350+ miles

Well, the first 100 or so miles into Florida is still Georgia.

I've been doing this for years

Different locations - St. Louis, Indianapolis, Chicago, New Orleans

Miami is just the longest one but if I break the trip up its not that bad - I make it a point to see places I've never seen before.

The problem is its a conference, so if you fly, you have a shuttle that takes you from the airport to the hotel and you're not allowed to get a car while you are there (well you can but you pay out of pocket for parking and the car rental), but since I always bring down all the stuff , then I get the rental car covered for the week.

95 in South Carolina is by far the worst.

You've got to appreciate eCat's intransigence. In the face of rare universal solidarity, the board unites in sass and scorn towards eCat on this issue, and his only nonplussed response is "I've been doing this for years." The understood codisil of "Fuck ya'll" is all the louder for being left unstated...

95 runs through my town as well...come here and we can visit some of Bragg Boulevard's classier establishments...
