My kid is 10 and he loves Fallout on Xbox One. And Minecraft. What is STEAM?

instead of buying games in a box on CD for your PC at the store, you can install STEAM and buy the games thru them. They offer free ones , demo's , discounted games and many of the big names.

Some people write games and STEAM gives them a platform to sell them - its only for Windows based PCs I think

but you need to make sure your PC is capable of playing the games. I ended up putting a $200 video card in the computer we have downstairs so my son and wife could play games.

Our 6'11" freshman center had 16 points and 13 boards in 17 minutes last night. That's encouraging...

Either Bucknell is going to make the Sweet 16 or we have some serious match-up issues on defense...

Probably the former. They return nearly everybody from last year, including their top 9 scorers, on a team that won the Patriot League and almost knocked 4 seed WVU out of the NCAA Tourney. They are not Utah Valley (Utah Valley??) or Vermont. Meanwhile it was Berry's first game back with a taped hand and another starter out with a knee problem. In the past two games our freshman post players have put up 27 points/15 boards in the first and 30 points/18 boards last night. That's far more than I was expecting from that group. At least we know they can play. If we can get 20/10 average out of them, that's way better than I was expecting, and they could be better than that. Once Berry gets back into the swing of things and we get Cam Johnson back, we'll be pretty good...

again, I don't play video games and I have no intention of ever doing so

that said, this is pretty amazing to me. While its an empty victory designed to promote sales before the launch of a game to protect investors, outcry in social media did change the business model - albeit temporarily, for a major company

-----------------

EA is temporarily pulling the microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II, a shocking move that comes after days of zealous fan anger and just hours before the official launch of the game.

“We hear you loud and clear, so we’re turning off all in-game purchases,” wrote Oskar Gabrielson, GM of Battlefront II developer DICE, in a blog post this evening. “We will now spend more time listening, adjusting, balancing and tuning. This means that the option to purchase crystals in the game is now offline, and all progression will be earned through gameplay. The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game. We’ll share more details as we work through this.”

Previously, you could spend real money on crates and crystals that let you improve your gear and get better at the game, a system that veered dangerously close to “pay-to-win” waters.

Controversy over Battlefront II has been swirling for weeks now, but peaked over the weekend after Early Access players discovered that the game’s heroes could take dozens of hours to unlock, a process you could expedite by spending money to buy loot crates and earn credits. On Monday, EA cut the costs of all heroes, but the damage had been done, and was exacerbated by widespread confusion over whether EA had also cut the number of credits you’d receive from playing the game.

This week, it seemed like the only thing video game fans wanted to talk about was Star Wars Battlefront II’s various methods of making you pay extra money. The rage led to the most downvoted Reddit comment of all time and even hit mainstream press, with a CNN article today proclaiming that “The new Star Wars video game is under attack.”
