Looked good compared to last years opener. Still, just a preseason win.

As season opening tomato can opponent games go, this one looked pretty good. Still look like a 3-4 loss team based on what I saw the rest of the schedule do.

Good points:
Defense was focused, good tackling, good coverage; yes it was FAU but the skills looked sound.
Brantley looks more at ease in this offense by far, though he sometimes still locks on his primary receiver.
Receivers were getting open and made some tough grabs, Reed is another TE in the mold of Troupe, Ingram, etc.
Sturgis' looked good after missing most of last year.

Concerns:
Oline didn't impress on run-blocking b/n the tackles.
Brantley threw a pair of picks , though one was tipped.
A few dumb penalties.

FAU doesn't look like its going to be good this year, even in the Sun Belt, so I'll put this on the same level with Zook's coaching debut (51-3 vs UAB) as pleasant to watch, but not very telling of what lies ahead.

Yeah, those were pretty bad. Agree on the 4 loss season too. Like the new offense though.

We'll see how things scratch out. Beating up Sunbelt Conference teams doesn't really indicate much. Other than two or three tops teams in the conference, you're dealing with FCS level talent. That said, what I liked was that the Gators didn't display the level of incompetence on offense that we saw throughout last season. We didn't have as many blown assignments on the Ol (though, I agree that the OL didn't look as sound in the run blocking as you would like) Brantley was poised enough to make mostly solid pass plays and our running backs, despite some inconsistent run blocking, actually looked like they could impact a game.

Baby steps (at least on offense). Defensively, I never really had any questions about this team's ability to compete. Muschamp is top notch in that area, so there's no real reason to doubt it, even if Texas proved to be disappointing on that side of the ball under his watch last year (disappointing in that they were merely pretty good but nothing special, despite the level of talent).

They might have had some help in 2009. I believe they spent more time on the field than the offense GBJ. Other than that they looked pretty good against an SEC team that had them pinned in the corner once their starting QB pussed out after being barely touched early in the game. Just an observation. By no means telling you that you are a biased Saban cum guzzler.

Well, Alabama only hung 37 points on them that game and 7 were from Dareus' return for the TD - so, we'll say the Texas defense gave up 30 points.

Which, that year, would put them worse than Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Ole Miss. The Texas D gave up 225 yards rushing to Trent and Mark alone. Heck, McElroy only completed 6 passes that game. There were two reasons for this: 3 broken ribs (from the Auburn game) and the fact that the running game was so effective.

Anyway, I'm sure Florida will be fine.

Doesn't he have two MNCs from different schools? Didn't he takeover downtrodden programs? Didn't he have an undefeated season in one of those MNC years?

Just sayin

Says the Miami Dolphins fan?

couple of those guys here at work tried the same argument. He took a 4 win Dolphin team and won .500 over the next two seasons. Shut 'em right up. Of course they don't appear to have the mental accumen of Rat...

Lotsa college coaches 'jump ship' for the NFL and come back. Spurrier, for example.
