Dr. John is doing a residency at Brooklyn Academy of Music for 3 weeks. The first week was a Louis Armstrong tribute. The final week is a Nawlins funk extravaganza with Trombone Shorty, Ivan Neville and others. This week was for his new stuff that he did with Dan Auerbach (Black Keys). So, I went to peep the show last night

I saw Leon Russell about 10 years ago. I've loved him since seeing him in The Concert For Bangladesh. We could understand what he was singing...mostly...but every song sounded the same; honky tonk in the same fast rhythm that I swear it was almost the same tune. We had to listen to the words he was singing to decipher what song it was. "Oh, that's A Song For You! That one's "Tightrope!" Always loved Mr. Russell, but man, if that would have been the first time I'd ever heard him I would have wondered what the deal was.
