Senators Durbin and Feinstein are reprising the old days when Southern fundamentalists asked JFK if he would follow orders from the pope if elected President. To a Catholic candidate for the judiciary...
"When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you," Feinstein said. "And that's of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for, for years in this country."

Sen. Dick Durbin, who asked during the same confirmation hearing if Barrett was an ‘orthodox Catholic.'
Can you imagine a GOP Senator telling a Muslim candidate, "I see a lot of shariah in you" or asking "are you an orthodox Muslim?"

With papists and muslims it's the right question to ask.

heh

The current generation of American and European papists are so wishy washy they don't care about anything of importance. Their new pope, born and raised in classic Latin American liberation theology, probably agrees more with Durbin and Feinstein than with the Catholic judicial nominee.

This country was built on good ol' Protestant work ethic and letting those lazy religions in was a mistake.

Beg to differ. Here in the South, those "hard working Protestants" brought in legions of slaves to pick their cotton for them. In the Northern industrial heartland, those "hard working Protestants" mainly brought in countless Catholic Irish and Polish and Germans and Italians to work 100 hour weeks in their mines and factories and sailing ships for them. Out West, those "hard working Protestants" shipped in innumerable Chinese to build their railroads for them.

The Protestant work ethic consisted mainly in getting non-Protestants to do the actual real hard dangerous labor that the Protestants were too lazy to do.

Where are the atheists in Irma relief?

Just b/c your people like to make a big show of whatever help they provide, and make sure that people know it was them who provided it, doesn't mean that humble, non-attention seeking atheists are doing nothing...

Then where are those non-attention seeking atheists helping with hurricane relief? Is there any evidence of their existence?

If so, I invite you to post it so they can get proper respect and recognition.

Clearly you are unfamiliar with the concept of doing good anonymously. Obviously you only feel the need to do good if you can get credit for it, whether it's in the form of recognition, a ticket into heaven or anything in between. The thought of doing good for its own sake is alien to you. All of this really goes without saying, as the nature of your greedy, venal soul is known to all (which is also a cornerstone of most organized religions, but especially the one you claim to follow), but I felt like saying it anyway...

And for that matter, atheists neither need nor want respect or recognition from the likes of you, as such recognition would merely serve to taint whatever good they had accomplished with the stench of your good opinion...

Translation: There is no evidence anywhere that the enlightened humanist atheists are doing diddly squat for hurricane victims like the Christians are.

That is to be expected. There is no such thing as an atheist hospice, or an atheist elderly care facility, or an atheist soup kitchen, or an atheist hospital, or an atheist orphanage, either.

It is not a matter of recognition. It is a matter of the fact that they don't exist.

Prof appears to be making the point that if he can't see or hear of atheists making donations to disaster relief, then he questions the very existence of said atheist donations.

Irony alert.

Yeah, plenty of atheists are philanthropists. And, of course, no atheist would donate to a cause and insist it be named the "God Doesn't Exist Center" or whatever. No more than we would make a children's hospital and name it "Santa Isn't Real You Little Brat."

Hiya, AA.

Before you run off again, please answer this one, burning question that all of us are asking: Is Bama in trouble?

Thanks is advance.

Bama is a very good this year. We should be 13-0 heading into the playoff.

Why?

In a word, Tradition. The beginning of college football season just isn't the same without you saying, "Gentlemen, Bama is in trouble." it even has its own acronym, "G,BIIT," which takes its place alongside the other traditional favorites, "P,YAAM" and "MPNCAA."

By saying Bama ISN'T in trouble, you appear to be taking a knee and disrespecting that tradition.
