Now that you mentioned it, yes, I would absolutely like to compare the number of mass murders committed by Catholics in the 16th century vs.the number of mass murders committed by atheist regimes in the 20th century as a percentage of the world's population.
Estimated world population in 1500: 450,000,000
http://www.worldometers.info/world-popu ... n-by-year/
Estimated number people killed by Inquisition of Catholic Church in the 16th century:
Beginning in the 19th century, historians have gradually compiled statistics drawn from the surviving court records, from which estimates have been calculated by adjusting the recorded number of convictions by the average rate of document loss for each time period. Gustav Henningsen and Jaime Contreras studied the records of the Spanish Inquisition, which list 44,674 cases of which 826 resulted in executions in person and 778 in effigy (i.e. a straw dummy was burned in place of the person).[51] William Monter estimated there were 1000 executions between 1530–1630 and 250 between 1630–1730.[52] Jean-Pierre Dedieu studied the records of Toledo's tribunal, which put 12,000 people on trial.[53] For the period prior to 1530, Henry Kamen estimated there were about 2,000 executions in all of Spain's tribunals...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisition, citing H. Kamen, Inkwizycja Hiszpańska, Warszawa 2005, p. 62; and H. Rawlings, The Spanish Inquisition, Blackwell Publishing 2004, p. 15.

Average of above estimates:
826 per Henningsen and Contreras
1,000 + 250 (generously) per Monter
2,000 per Kamen)
3,826 people killed by Inquisition of Catholic Church.

3,826 divided by 450,000,000 (estimated world population in 1500) =
.0000085% of the world population was murdered by Catholic Inquisition in the 16th century.

-------------------------------------------------------

Estimated number of people murdered by the atheist Stailn, the atheist Mao, and the atheist Pot in the 20th century:

Stalin:
Many historians have suggested that Stalin was responsible for death total of around 20 million, citing much higher victim totals from executions, Gulag camps, deportations and other causes...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of ... eph_Stalin
Mao:
Mao's Great Leap Forward 'killed 45 million in four years'...http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 81630.html
Pot:
The Cambodian genocide (Khmer: របបប្រល័យពូជសាសន៍) was carried out by the regime of the Khmer Rouge (KR), led by Pol Pot between 1975 and 1979, in which the regime killed an estimated 1.5 to 3 million Cambodians.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambodian_genocide
Let's average the two body counts and say Pot murdered 2.25 million.

So, adding up 20 million (the atheist Stalin), 45 million (the atheist Mao) and 2.5 (the atheist Pot) the total number of people murdered by atheist regimes in the 20th century is about 67.5 million.
The approximate population of the world in 1900 was 1,600,000,000 ...http://www.worldometers.info/world-popu ... n-by-year/

So now, let's divide the number of victims of murder by atheist regimes in the 20th century (67.5 million) by the total world population at the beginning of the century (1,600,000,000). Turns out, the percentage of the world population murdered by athiest regimes in the 20th century is 4.21%.

------------------------------

Comparison of the number of Catholic murders in the 16th century and the number of atheist regime murders in the 20th century in terms of percentage of the wold's population at the time:
The percentage of the earth's population murdered by the Catholic Church in the 16th century was .0000085%.
The percentage of the earth's population murdered by the atheist regimes in the 20th century was 4.21%..

Put another way, the atheists in the 20th century murdered 117,647% more of the earth's population than the percentage of the world's population the Catholics murdered in the 16th century.

hedge, please check my math; is it correct? Math is not my strong suit...

If you think the catholic church is only responsible for 3800 total deaths, I'd say neither common sense nor honesty is your strong suit...

If you have any credible evidence from unbiased sources that the Catholic Church murdered more than 3800 in the 16th century, then I invite you to post it. (Chick publications tracts do not count.) If the larger number is credible, I'll even redo my calculations, free of charge. You're welcome.

But if the number of deaths attributable to the Catholic Church in the 16th century is higher, then whatever that number is, it will never come close to approaching the 67+ million murders, or 4.21% of the earth's population, all committed by your fellow atheists, and all done since our parents were born.

hedge, why are all the greatest genocides in the past century (and probably in all recorded history) committed by atheists? I thought you guys were enlightened, humanist, scientific, egalitarian, etc?

I learned of Billy Graham's passing listening to the radio while driving through Charlotte, NC. Providential.

I grew up listening to him (and George Bevery Shea) on the radio on Sunday nights. He was indeed a great man.

Billy Graham “anti-Semitic”? That one little nugget of uninformed idiocy just demonstrates you have never even heard him.

I hear he was a member of the KKK and the Nazis, and helped Trump collude with the Russians too.

All true and just the tip of the iceberg. Charlatan, huckster, crook. Good riddance and I'm glad his last years were full of misery, pain and drooling embarrassment for him and his crooked family. Everybody has seen his type, he was just one of the more visible due to his sycophantic devotion to any president who needed him to come in and officially forgive them for whatever transgression of the moment had occurred. The anti-semitism is well documented in taped conversations with Nixon. Nixon was far from being jew friendly, but he's just the standard neighborhood bigot compared to Graham...

Yet, Billy Graham will lie in state in the Capitol and you won't. And at least 10,000 people will show up and pay their respects at Billy Graham's funeral for every one that shows up at yours. There will be a long line of people visiting his grave at a library bearing his name for at least a year. Hundreds of thousands of people will read his many books and listen to his sermons, whereas maybe five people on planet earth will have ever heard of "the Mighty Hedgehog." Billy Graham will remain beloved by millions for decades after you expire in total obscurity, mourned only by a handful heroin dealers in eastern NC, still trying to get paid.

Advantage: Graham.

Graham interviewed by Woody Allen years ago - - a very one-sided display of charm, grace and wit.

Tree, this is a theologian who sounds right up your alley:
Jesus was 'drag king' with 'queer desires,' claims theology professor

A theology professor at a Catholic college is making some bizarre – some would even say blasphemous – claims about Jesus Christ that is causing a stir on campus.

Dr. Tat-siong Benny Liew, chair of New Testament Studies at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., said Jesus was a “drag king” who had “queer desires.” He also claims the Last Supper was a “literary striptease” and that Jesus was not a man, but gender fluid.

The “Gospel of John” professor cited the book of John in the Bible to try to back his arguments.

“[Christ] ends up appearing as a drag-kingly bride in his passion,” he argues. “If one follows the trajectory of the Wisdom/Word or Sophia/Jesus (con)figuration, what we have in John’s Jesus is not only a ‘king of Israel’ or ‘king of the Ioudaioi [Jews],’ but also a drag king.”

Then he used Jesus’ crucifixion to try to show the Passion of Christ was really a “(homo)sexual bonding of the Father and the Son.”

“What I am suggesting is that, when Jesus’ body is being penetrated, his thoughts are on his Father. He is, in other words, imagining his passion experience as a (masochistic?) sexual relation with his own Father.”

Liew also suggested Jesus was trying to get his followers to join in.

The controversial professor uses the example of Thomas, after the Resurrection, putting his finger in Jesus’ side, which the New Testament scholar argued was an example of John asking his readers “to perform a kind of pan-eroticism.”

And the Last Supper, when Jesus washed his disciples feet, was a “seductive,” “literary striptease” and a “womanly/slavishly task” used as an example of John’s transgender interpretation of Jesus, the professor claims.

The religious studies professor also argues John’s multiple references of Jesus wanting water, giving water, and leaking water “speak to Jesus’ gender indeterminacy and hence his cross-dressing and other queer desire.”

Because of all this, Liew argues that while John makes it clear Jesus was a Jew, he leaves open “whether Jesus is a biological male.”
