if your organization, team or even as an individual is clearly under performing - say to the extent you have -75% margin - when the big bosses fly you in for a meeting from around the nation, bring in the entire management team to train you, and they come to you and say "we want you review our processes and use the tools we have for forecasting because everyone else is doing quite well", they aren't really interested in hearing about how the tool sucks and that's why you aren't using it.

I was in a meeting with 26 people yesterday. 3 of them I suspect will not be employed by end of next week because of the stupid statements they made during this meeting.

I'm only posting this because I'm constantly amazed a how clueless people really are in managing their career. One of the guys said something to the effect of "sell me on why doing this is (a process to accurately forecast revenue) is worth my time" to our V.P.. The V.P. made eye contact with me when the guy finished his sentence, I'm sure I had a look like this on my face

it was especially difficult because this group of 26 people were responsible for an organization of about 800 people losing roughly 20% of their quarterly bonus.

In the past I've posted things like this and that was usually Crow's opportunity to come on here, call me a giant pussy for not telling the bosses to go fuck themselves and then insult my manhood, questioning how I could even satisfy a woman.

I miss that worthless son of a bitch
You have to be careful. I've made the mistake of letting go a marginal person, but they were well liked by a lot of his peers, some you really want to keep. If the guy is really bad, none of his peers like him, but if he is half-way decent, and well liked, you may want to wait before you decide to try to upgrade.

Professor Tiger wrote:You guys are lucky you are managers in the corporate world, and not in government. You can fire underperformers and backtalkers, and they're gone immediately.

In federal government, managers can't fire anybody, including underperformers (which is half the workforce). I've seen subordinates basically say gfy to their bosses, and nothing ever happened. Bosses in federal government must take a LOT of blood pressure medicine.
It's odd that you'd be complaining about the one thing that kept you employed all these years.

Lord, AA would fire me every week for my insubordination. Of course, I never get fired because I work harder and produce more and am generally beloved by all in spite of and due to my caustic, ascerbic, sardonic remarks. Then again, I've never worked in a corporate environment. Just small companies where I can get away with shit like that.

My latitude with ascerbic and caustic from subordinates is influenced with production and doing their job as prescribed. But, with eCat's group, it doesn't seem they're doing either.

Those 26 people probably have an average salary of $130K. They don't get much rope when it comes to being caustic in the work place

This is how to run a corporate meeting and fire a manager for acerbic and sardonic comments:

Yeah, mine is 1/3 that, hence, my surliness. Well, at least part of it.

That would mean you make $43.33K. That means you aren't a corporate executive. That means you are a cable installer.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Less than $43K. That's what cable guys make. Folks like me and Bluecat work for chump change and whatever free food we can scrape up.

On the bright side, it's another reason for your job security. They know their chances of finding someone competent to do what you do for that salary are very slim. Indeed, you're virtually irreplaceable. That has to be the source of some kind of pride, however convolutedly one arrives at it...

don't feel bad.

My sis-n-law has a degree in Biology and has been working as a field person for this company , analyzing mold, algae, toxins, that sort of thing, - has been doing it for at least 8 years and makes $40K.

The company isn't doing well but they won't let her go because she is so "valuable" - yea , as in try to get a recent college grad in Biology to come work for you making $40K a year.

"analyzing mold, algae, toxins, that sort of thing"

That's not that much different from being a sportswriter for a small town newspaper...
