136 year old levis found in mine

Levis quit putting the rivet at the bottom of the fly because men would crouch down around a fire, the rivet would retain heat and when they stood up it would burn their balls.

You buy Levis today and they won't last 8 months. Yet another company that sucks now.

The subject of today's Google doodle is some Norwegian explorer named Fridtjof Nansen. This is from wikipedia:

Later life

On 17 January 1919 Nansen married Sigrun Munthe, a long-time friend with whom he had had a love affair in 1905, while Eva was still alive. The marriage was resented by the Nansen children, and proved unhappy; an acquaintance writing of them in the 1920s said Nansen appeared unbearably miserable and Sigrun steeped in hate.

Are Norwegian explorers generally a happy lot?

in about 2 hours I'll be going on a quick 5 day vacation to Northern Michigan and the U.P.

Tonight is Traverse City, Tomorrow is Sault St. Marie with a shot over to Lake Superior, and spend the rest of it on Mackinac Island.

Going to hit the Charlevoix Apple festival, the tunnel of trees in Petoskey, hit some wineries around Harbor Springs and find a few off the beaten places to eat.

Hoping to buy a couple of nice end of season bicycles from the bike rental places on Mackinac - last year we went and they were selling some high end Treks for $150 but we didn't have any way to get them home. We're bringing a bike rack this time.

We won't be doing anything particularly exciting but I love these kind of vacations - taking in cities along the way, stopping at whatever tourist trap or mom-n-pop that catches our eye along the way.

I am in Chicago this week where winter is just starting to bite. I have always liked those 3/4 length wool coats but I never dress well enough to pull it off. I also like those carhartt canvas coats but those look out of place at an office too. I should either dress better or worse in the winter to match my fashion sense.

Anyways I venture downtown tomorrow taking the train to union station. That will be a first for me.

I would do it but I have zero down time. As soon as the day is over I have to host a group of employees for dinner tomorrow and then I head out Friday morning.

Its tough for me to meet up with people on business trips.

I did order Giordanos deep dish pizzas for the office today for lunch. I'm sure its debatable which is the best but this is what my Chicago resident boss told me to order so I'm looking forward to watching everyone eat it while I eat a fucking salad

so I called an Uber on Thursday

in the uber app, you can tell the driver where you will be so I put on the map where I'd be which I'll readily admit was very congested, but I put it at an intersection. So the app says he is there but he wasn't, he was in a Toyota Rav 4 and there wasn't one. Next thing I know the app says we couldn't connect. No big deal to me, he probably got tied up in traffic and canceled.

Nope, the app charges me $5 for the missed connection. Not that I care too much about $5 but later on I learned that the app may let you determine where you are, but if there is a "pickup" spot close by that is less congested the app will expect you to go there. So the guy was waiting for me at the pickup spot around the corner, but I had told the app where I'd be and somewhere along the way it , after telling me the driver and what he was driving, it changed things up and expected me to move.

I don't use Uber alot so this may be common but I wasn't especially fond of it asking me to go thru the effort of pin point exactly where I was on the map and then asking me to move afterwards, and because I didn't check it in a 2 minute window, it hits me up for $5. I used Uber 3 other times that day and the driver picked me up exactly where I was on the map.
