I'll believe it can, when the city actually does.

We lost a spot in the lottery but I'm hopeful THE SMACK will still be around..... as well as hoping that he's the player I want him to be.

I have to say that while I wanted THE SMACK, I'm pretty happy Brandon Knight dropped to us.

Now, I guess I'm just hoping that Drummond drops. If not that, then I hope Myers Leonard or John Henson pan out.

I like Henson (I went to UNC), but he's going to take a few years to round into NBA form. He's decently athletic and freakishly long and he's got decent range already, which will just get better over time. I think he'll eventually be a Sam Perkins type of player. Perfect for a late lottery pick...

I have no idea where his heart is, though. He seems like he plays bball because he can, not because he likes it.

It is Christmas in June!!!!

Thank yous go out to Cleveland and Toronto.

He may wind up being a bust but he also may wind up being the best player in this draft class. More than a worthy gamble to take at #9.

I think he'll at worst be a DeAndre Jordan-type and that's a good compliment to Monroe.

I also like the picking of Sir Kim English at #44. I think he may make the team and he certainly fits the blue-collar, high character profile of Pistons' past.

It looks like 3 good drafts in a row. There is hope!

Drummond scares me...and #9 is still more of a gamble than a steal.

agreed. he sounds like a great kid and all but everytime I look at him, I see Hasheem Thabeet. and everytime I looked at Hasheem Thabeet pre draft, I see Hasheem Thabeet now.... that's not good.

The only similarity I see is that they both played center for UConn. He's stronger and much more athletic than Thabeet. He was somewhat passive in his one year at UConn but they also had an assistant coaching the team for most of the year.

I also don't see any other more reliable options at #9. Henson, Leonard, Sullinger, Rivers, either Jones, pretty much anyone you name had question marks. Zeller was the only guy that maybe what you see is what you get but he's pretty limited. Drummond had the biggest upside. He's a guy that some mocks had him rated above Davis until mid-January. To me, Detroit HAD to make this pick.

I am not sure how Drummond is taller than Thabeet. He weighs more, I will give you that. But Thabeet is longer and taller.

Biggest Upside? If that means he can't play now and he might become a player then I would agree but Rivers/Sullinger/Jones can play now. Sullinger/Jones have questions marks so I could see the Pistons not touching those guys so it really comes down to Rivers or Drummond. I am not a big Rivers fan (despite being a Duke fan) so I can understand why he was not picked. I just don't see Drummond as a steal since his game is limited right now. ...and anyone that had Drummond above Davis in mid-January obviously didn't watch basketball.

I can agree that Drummond was probably the right choice for Detroit but it's a pick that has a lot of risk. There are alot of guys that leave college that are considered high upside, or even athletic freaks, but if you are going to the NBA to learn how to play.... probably not the right place to learn. and I think Drummond has a lot to learn. Maybe you are right but I am not sold on the kid.

Where did I say Drummond was taller than Thabeet? That didn't happen.

It is a gamble.

In no way did I say he's a sure thing. He has all the physical tools, though.
